DIY tips to keep the kids happy this summer

May 29, 2018

Across the country, school is either out for the summer or close to it, and many parents may be wondering what they can do to keep their kids active this summer without breaking the bank.

One particularly inexpensive activity that can provide a day of fun is for parents to find a nearby farm that allows visitors to pick their own fruit or flowers, according to Very Well Family. This kind of trip helps get the kids out of the house and out in the sun, keeps them busy for a few hours and provides healthy snacks all at the same time.

Out in the country
In addition, it might be fun to go to a lake, where families can take a canoe out on the water, go fishing and otherwise splash around.

Parents can also take the kids out to a secluded area at night, where they can stargaze, catch fireflies and maybe even have a fire and eat toasted marshmallows or s'mores.

Closer to home
But for parents who want to stay home sometimes, there are plenty of DIY craft projects kids can do to occupy the time, according to Arts and Budgets. Something as simple as making jewelry with household items, or starting a small backyard garden, will likely keep them occupied for hours with little need for careful supervision.

A little creativity and online research can go a long way toward giving families a whole summer's worth of fun, and with the end of school fast approaching, now is the time to start planning.
