How to make popcorn cupcakes

You know what kids love? Sweets. They also love popcorn. Why not combine the two snacks into one almighty salty and sweet treat that takes a little effort but looks extra fancy?

Bake the chocolate cupcakes
Head to the kitchen to hunt down a few key ingredients. Then, peruse the supermarket for anything else that you might need. Include these items on your list. They're the ingredients to make chocolate cupcakes, which will be the base of your yummy creation. Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

Directions
It's time to get to baking! Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, toss in all of the ingredients and either stir manually or use a mixer to make the job easier on your arms. If you're using a mixer, you should turn it to medium. The batter is finished once it reaches a smooth consistency. Pour the batter into separate cupcake tins. This recipe should yield 15 total. Pop your tray of cupcakes into the oven and bake for about 20 to 30 minutes. Check in occasionally. You'll know they're done if you can put a fork or a toothpick clear through the cupcake and when you take it out it's dry, rather than covered in batter. 

The perfect popcorn topping
Once your delicious little morsels are ready, it's time to frost them and add your fun topping. Making the popcorn garnish is easy. If you're feeling really ambitious, you can make your own kettle corn at home, instead of using the instant kind. Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients

  • A pack of kettle kernels
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3 teaspoons kosher salt

Directions
Pop the kernels stovetop following the instructions on the package. Once they're ready, pour the popcorn onto a baking sheet. Next, toss the butter into a sauce pan over low heat and whisk it until it turns brown. Then, dredge the popcorn in butter and pour the salt and brown sugar over the top. Be sure to distribute the aforementioned items evenly, then place in the oven. Remove the popcorn from the oven after 25 minutes.

Add a layer of frosting of your cupcakes, then stack a little mound of popcorn on each one. Use the frosting as an adhesive. Then, serve your cute little cupcakes and enjoy some yourself!
