You've probably heard that a home warranty covers the repair or replacement of appliances and systems in your residence. However, that's a pretty vague description, and you might be wondering which products are included in HMS services. Here's the skinny on what your HMS® Home Warranty does and doesn't cover.
Protection for your appliances and systems
Your home warranty covers many of the major appliances and systems that commonly break down. If there's a problem with any of the following plumbing items, you can file a claim with HMS to get it repaired or replaced:
Heating Ventilation and Cooling*
- Air conditioning System
- Heating System
- Shower and Tub Valves
- Interior Water Lines
- Interior Gas Lines
- Water Heater
- Garbage Disposal
- Wall Switches and Outlets
- Circuit Breakers
- Interior Wall Wiring
- Ceiling Fans
- Garage Door Opener
- Doorbell Chime
One of our biggest coverage categories is appliances. These products are eligible for repair or replacement under many of our warranties:
- Clothes Washer/Dryer
- Dishwasher (built-in)
- Microwave (built-in)
- Trash Compactor (built-in)
Your HMS Home Warranty will provide coverage for any of these items as long as they've been properly installed and maintained. The age, make and models of your appliances don't matter!* If it breaks, we're here to help you fix it.
Items that aren't covered
Unfortunately, HMS can't cover every single item in your home. Your warranty won't help pay for the repair or replacement of certain non-mechanical products. These include:
- Structural items
- HVAC line sets.
The good news is that many of these items are covered under your home insurance! That's why a home warranty is the perfect supplementary service to most insurance plans. As a homeowner, you're also responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of your appliances. HMS will not replace the filters in your air conditioners or furnace. If an appliance or system breaks because it was not properly maintained, HMS may deny your service request.
Keep in mind that appliance and system coverage varies by state and depends on what package you've purchased. Various coverage extensions are available for an additional fee, so don't be afraid to ask. If you have any questions about your particular warranty, review your HMS contract or call to speak with one of our customer care representatives.
*See terms and conditions and limitations in your service agreement. Some items may require an additional fee. Non-covered charges may apply to certain repairs or replacements.
The information in these articles is intended to provide guidance on the proper maintenance and care of systems and appliances in the home. Not all of the topics mentioned are covered by our home warranty or maintenance plans. Please review your home warranty contract carefully to understand your coverage.
