Cut through oven grease - au naturelAs you cook and bake your way to Julia Child status, you are likely to notice that a spill here and a splatter there could leave your oven in pretty rough shape. While you can rest assured that your HMS® service plan will help you out in the event of an unfortunate accident, you can avoid minor issues by keeping your oven clean. Here are a few pointers that will enable you to make this appliance spotless without having to use harsh chemicals: Head to the store for green cleaners There is a reason conventional oven cleaners work so well: They contain severe substances that are capable of doing some serious damage on not only grease, but also your health. In many cases, having these agents in your house poses a risk, especially if they come in contact with your skin or eyes, or if you happen to ingest them. Because of this, you should go the natural route by stopping by the store and picking up a few less offensive products. At your local grocer, make sure to grab an extra bottle of your favorite eco-friendly dish detergent. The next time you think it's time to give your oven a wash-down, put some of this liquid on a sponge and go to town. It can cut through grease, and increases in effectiveness with a bit of scrubbing. Look in the pantry Sometimes, a trip to the store isn't even needed. Do you have lemons in your kitchen? If so, squeeze them into a pan and stick them in the oven for a half hour at 250 degrees. The citric acid of the juice will make grease practically melt away, making your scrubbing job that much easier. If you aren't pressed for time, you can create a paste with baking soda and water, applying it to the inside of your appliance and leaving it on overnight. In the morning, you can tackle that cleaning task, removing the grease like it's your business.
