2 yummy sweet treats to bring to a Super Bowl Sunday party

January 30, 2015

Your friends probably have the nachos and pizza covered, but have they thought about dessert this Super Bowl Sunday? Impress your host with these two quick and easy desserts - something that the dads and kids alike can enjoy while watching the big game.

1. Football rice crispy treats
You'd be hard-pressed to find a crowd that doesn't love rice crispy treats. They're easy, delicious and, best of all, you can make them into all different shapes, like footballs - Super Bowl Sunday appropriate. Get started by checking your cupboard for the following ingredients, as you probably already have many of them at home. Here's what you'll need to get started:

  • 1 bag of marshmallows
  • 6 cups of Cocoa Krispie cereal
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • salt

Once you have everything you need, get started by melting the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add in the bag of marshmallows and stir the mixture until it's well blended. Add in the salt and continue to stir.

You're almost there! Remove from the burner and toss in the Cocoa Krispie cereal and blend it all together. Wait for the components to cool a little so you don't burn yourself. Then, sprinkle a little butter and flour on your hands and begin to formulate your mixture into football shapes. Tip: you can also use a cookie cutter if you're uncertain of your artistic ability.

2. Chocolate-dipped strawberry footballs
Again, who doesn't love chocolate-covered anything? These bad boys are always a hit whether you're giving them to your sweetie or making them for a party. And they're even semi-healthy. Pick up the following ingredients from the store to get started:

  • 9 ounces of chocolate
  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 1 can white frosting

Start by cutting off the stems from the strawberries. Next, you're going to melt the chocolate on top of your stove. Put the burner on low to medium and stir several times until the chocolate takes liquid form. Turn the burner off and dip the strawberries into the chocolate one by one. Then, put them on a plate and let them cool.

Once the chocolate has formed a hard shell, it's time to paint on the football stripes. Pour the can of frosting into a plastic bag and cut off the corner so you have a marker-like tool for painting. After you've finished, keep the strawberries in the fridge until it's party time.
